The Bridal Hair Prep Guide: How to Prepare for Your Appointment

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “Dirty hair is better for styling.” I’m sorry (not sorry) to be the one to tell you, but that’s a myth!

In most cases, clean hair is best for bridal styling. Proper bridal hair prep helps us achieve your desired look while keeping your appointment running smoothly.

Here’s what you need to know before your appointment.

1. Wash Day

Arrive with freshly washed, completely dry hair. Shampoo thoroughly, and skip conditioner, styling products, oils, and heavy treatments.

Now, I know what you're thinking...no product?! This allows us to work with a clean canvas and be able to control what products to use on your hair and how much.

2. Hair Inspiration

Have your inspiration photos ready! Whether you’re wanting a sleek updo, half-up style, or Hollywood waves, references help us understand your vision. Bonus points if you show us what you're wearing. If you're having a hard time deciding on a hairstyle, your dress will help us guide you on what hairstyle will best suit the neckline.

3. Veil & Accessories

Bring your veil and any hair accessories you plan to wear, including pins, bows, headbands, etc., so we can plan their placement with your hairstyle.

4. Extensions

Extensions must be washed, brushed, and completely dry before your appointment. Yes, this applies to brand-new, unworn extensions, too!

Brand new extensions are usually coated with extra silicones and are freshly dyed. When heat is applied, the silicones tend to melt and stick to the curling/straight irons. We definitely don't want to melt extensions onto your natural hair. Which is why they need to be washed before stying.

5. What to Wear

Choose a button-down shirt, zip-up top, or robe that can be removed without pulling over your head. This helps protect your finished hairstyle when it’s time to change.
